Standing 5-foot-8, Como Zoo’s latest baby makes quite an impression.
The St. Paul zoo will introduce its days old baby giraffe on Sunday to the public. Born on Sept. 1 weighing 130 pounds, she has yet to be named.
The baby is the fifth calf born to mom Clover and the zoo’s 17th the past 20 years. Como Park will now have four giraffes, the newborn, her mother Clover, her father Skeeter, and Daisy.
If you think the new calf is big now, just wait. Giraffe’s tend to double in height in the first two years and can eventually grow as tall as 18 feet, the zoo said. The animals are native to sub-Saharan Africa.
