City staff members are hosting preliminary meetings with developer Jim LaValle about his vision for Island Station, the former coal plant property along the Mississippi River in downtown St. Paul.
Details are still pretty mum, but previous owners have spoken of taking the 10.7 acres of riverfront land and building everything from housing to restaurants and retail. A call to LaValle was not returned on Monday.
The brick building and towering smokestack at 380 Randolph Ave. came down with a dusty boom last March, to the delight of viewing audiences along the High Bridge and to the horror of some preservationists who had hoped to see the building reused.
